Dry fly fishing is a fishing method in which the lure is an artificial fly floating on the water surface, without getting water logged.
Developed originally for trout fly fishing but also used on many other species, dry fly fishing is perceived by some as the superior form of the fly fishing sport, due to the significant manual flexibility.
Dry flies are tied using many types of materials. Hook sizes are commonly size 18 to size 10 but sometimes larger and smaller hook sizes are used for dry flies.
Good quality cock hackle is used to help the fly float high on the water and dubbing is used for the body.
Wings are traditionally tied with Hen & Cock Hackle, Duck, Turkey and Pheasant feathers.
These days we have many synthetic materials to choose from that make excellent wings for both traditional dry flies as well as parachute type flies like the Parachute adams that will float all day.
