Our Borneo fly Fishing Adventure.
The Borneo adventure is truly different to most of the trips on offer. With a chance to fish rivers that are very different to the rivers we would normally fish and to a species of fish that are unique and so very different to the trout we would normally fish for yet just as technical and possibly more aggressive.
On this trip we travel to Sabah on the Island of Borneo Malaysia, first you travel to Kuala Lumpur then on to Kota Kinabalu. At Kota Kinabalu airport you will be greeted by your host and guide Julio Dino Charles. Julio is an excellent guide and a great guy to spend a few days with on your adventure. Julio will drive you to your Hotel where you can check in shower then join Julio for relaxing meal and he will fill you in on what to expect for the next few days of your Borneo adventure.
The main species we target are the Malaysian Golden Mahseer. The Mahseer is species of carp that lives in the highland and lowland streams in the remote jungle and rural area of Sabah. These fish take flies from the surface with fierce aggression and the rivers are teaming with fish. While there are plenty of fish and they will take the fly readily they are much harder to hook and once hooked they do everything in their power to through your hook, so this makes them a great sports fish to target on fly.
Other species you will target is Jungle perch and Snakehead, although far less common than the Mahseer but both species are formidable species to target, especially Snakehead as they have a reputation of pulling like no other fresh water fish.
Conditions in the dry season is comfortable with temperatures between 28 to 35 degrees usually you are fishing under the canopy of the jungle so your out of the direct sun. You will also be wet wading in pleasant water temperatures. The wading conditions are from easy to intermediate with shallow clear clean water and the distances you wade and hike are quite small. You will have fish come to your fly in most pools and catch fish in nearly every other so you keep well entertained and do not travel a lot of distance in a day fishing. Having said that some rivers can be quite challenging so you need to communicate with your guide if you think the task is too much for you, remember its your adventure you set the pace!
We recommend five days fishing for this adventure and a day traveling each way so seven days in total. On that basis with twin share accommodation we have priced this trip at $2250.00 all inclusive with flights from Sydney. Yes that is flights, accommodation, meals all you're guiding and transfers.
